Jesus personal Savior, aka The Higher-self

In my youth, (around age 12), my parents having converted from Catholicism to “Born-Again” Christianity, instructed me in the primary doctrine of that sect, which is vicarious atonement, aka, “Jesus paid for our sins.” A corollary of that concept is that one must “accept Jesus as one’s personal savior, and invite Jesus into one’s heart; once this is done, Jesus is always with us, our intimate friend, ever present as the “still small voice,” and trustworthy confidant to whom we may always turn to for consolation and council. I have subsequently rejected the teaching that Jesus’ death was a bloody payment to the wrath of the Father, because I determined it to be irrational, and not in line with the teachings of Jesus Himself. I made a video called “Did Jesus pay for our sins?”, and it can be found on YouTube .

I rejected vicarious atonement, but I did not reject the idea of Jesus in my heart, because it was very real to me. I experience the Divine presence in my heart. I perceive God’s companionship from the deepest part of my consciousness. The scripture reference for this concept is:

Jesus says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” Revelations 3:10

This is talking about the door of our consciousness.

Jesus is a symbol of the Divine Light within each of us: (The Word, Jesus) Is the true Light (Divine Truth), which gives light to every man coming into the world. (John 1:9)

In the Bible narrative, Jesus is symbolic. The symbolism has several levels. Abstractly, spiritually, He embodies Truth Itself in Life. In the ideal collective/social sense, He represents The Universal Humanity, the Divine manifesting to Mankind, as Man. More specifically, as a Biblical component, He represented the receptivity of spiritual/religious truth by the Hebrew nation of Israel. To each human individual, Jesus of the Bible is a literary symbolic portrayal of the creation of our personal, higher self. He is a representation of our individual higher level of consciousness, which is in direct receptivity of Divine influx, and as we pursue and progress in spiritual life, we become gradually more, and more conscious of the Divine Presence in our innermost being. Our soul is the Divine Presence uniquely individuated as each of us, and Jesus in the Bible is a universal, symbolic depiction of its gradual realization.

(For a detailed exposition of this concept, read my book, Allegorical Jesus, The Hidden Parable of Divine Humanity, found on the books page of this website)

To acknowledge “Jesus”, Divine Truth, as personal savior, and to invite Him to come into our consciousness and dine with us, and to recognize the reality of that inner light mentioned in John 1:9 , will create a new reality in our spiritual state. God will not inflict His presence upon us. We must invite the Divine to make himself known, and we must choose and invite His continual presence and guidance, before He can be there for us. Acknowledging the reality of the Divine within each of us, and asking for the Divine to be an actual perceived conscious experience, will change your life completely. If we try to know God’s presence as our constant guide and companion, this will put us in a position to receive His Grace in a more powerful way.

I implore you to pray that the Divine Light (aka Jesus) will manifest in your consciousness and make His presence constant and real to your perception; this is to say, you should ask that the Divine Light, which is your higher-self, your inner light, to become the guide that will “save” you from your lower-self. Unless you have faith in that Divine Light, the Divine Presence, which is in the deepest part of your consciousness, and are faithful to it, you cannot be saved.

The Divine Light, as the perceived Divine presence in the individual consciousness, can guide us from evil, which is separation from the Divine, to a state of Grace, joined to God.

Having prayed that prayer, and having formed a sincere, new intention to walk with God in your daily life, you are now entered into the way of spiritual regeneration, the spiritual birth process, and are now in a position to become a spiritual creation, an image of the Divine, truly receptive of influx of the Divine Omniscience and Omnipotence. His Omnipresence will shine in every area of your conscious experience. His Love and Wisdom will abide in you in ever-increasing fulness, and your joy will be made full.

This is what it means to say that Jesus came to save the world from sin.
